The traditional imagery of  Boy Scout Merit Badges being related to tying knots, woodland familiarity, and wilderness survival are quickly replaced by aeronautical terms and functions as well as airflight familiarity at the Lyon Air Museum.
The Museum provides a perfect setting for Scouts to earn their Aviation merit badges with the Museum and its docents providing the merit badge education, counseling and verifications essential to the merit badge achievement.  During the Scouts visit to the museum they will be presented with comprehensive examples of aircraft flight and aviation concepts as well as means for a required preflight inspection and description of use of the aircraft –meeting 90% of the merit badge requirements.  As such, the Lyon Air Museum provides for real-time, real –world educational experience for Scouts.
